Do You Ever Get Stuck On a Course of Action?
I do, the last time was when I was trying to reschedule a class to suit all the participants and myself. It was complicated by two requests and trying to find alternative dates that suited everyone.
My brain hurt!
I had to go away and think about what was going on. Eventually I realised that there were two separate requests that needed to be dealt with separately even though they had been thrown in the same conversation. The solution to the other problem of dates came about by thinking about what my options were:
i) Leave it as is (not a preferred option)
ii) Find a new date on a Friday (also not a preferred option).
iii) Find an alternative evening.
iv) Something else
There is always the option of something else. The first time I wrote this list I didn't have a clue what option 4 was but I was sure there was one. I started thinking outside the boxes on what was possible even though they were new ideas and I came up with the option of a double lesson on an already scheduled day. I asked the group and they thought it was a great idea.
So just remember, when you are stuck on your actions, always add your something else option, then give yourself space to think about what it is, it just takes a different point of view to find it!
